Mosquitoes love stagnant water!

Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. In fact, mosquitoes can breed in as little as a drop of water. If you leave your swimming pool for a month without cleaning and draining it regularly and replacing it with new water, it can produce enough mosquitoes to infest your entire neighborhood. So keep the water stored in containers and buckets, covered. If you are collecting or storing water in the buckets, pails and containers at home, turn them over and empty them thoroughly, else keep them covered. Also ensure that you do not over water plants in your flower pots as they may become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Weekly emptying and drying of all standing water sources, howsoever small they may be, in and around houses will do the trick.

Good drainage is also paramount to protect from Mosquitoes. To prevent water standing in drains so that they don’t become breeding centers, sufficient gradient should be provided to eliminate water standing in low lying areas, ditches etc.  Periodical de-silting of drains, sewers and storm water should be done before the onset of monsoon to enable the drains to maintain steady flow and avoid flooding.

Dress to protect!

Mosquitoes are pulled towards dark colors as they use their vision to search food during the day. So, opt for light colors that are less attractive to mosquitoes. Wearing loose fitting clothes, with full or lengthy sleeves also help as mosquitoes can easily bite into tight, skin-fitting clothes. Mosquitoes are particularly active during sunrise and sunset hours, so cover up as much as possible during these hours of the day and stay protected.

You may be a Mosquito magnet- without even realizing it!

If you think Mosquitoes seem to be particularly attracted to you, you are probably right! There are some blood groups which attract mosquitoes more than others, like O+ for instance. Also, mosquitoes are attracted to people with high amounts of cholesterol on their skin surface and people who produce excess amount of uric acid. If you have exercised continuously for a long duration, you’re likely to draw the attention of mosquitoes as well. Certain perfumes and scents have the same effect. And people who emit large quantity of carbon-di-oxide, beware! To mosquitoes you are very attractive indeed!

Go clean!

Just like stagnant water, mosquitoes love garbage! The waste from your kitchen and other waste can become potential breeding sites for mosquitoes. If the garbage contains more of plastic waste, then the breeding sites increase exponentially. So keep your trash cans and dustbins covered and regularly clean out garbage from your home. Keeping your homes and surroundings clean will go a long way in protecting your home from Mosquitoes. Eliminate all breeding places around your home like old tires, tanks, drums, discarded buckets, flower pots, containers, bottles, old shoes, garden tools, and brick holes. Keep your surroundings clean and prohibit those pesky intruders from trespassing!

Use Mosquito repellent plants:

Some plants have properties that prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Plant them near your home to safeguard from mosquitoes. Tulsi, scented geraniums, marigold, sweet basil, citrosa plants, lemon thyme and sassafras are some of them.

These measures will prevent bugs and insects from entering your home.  Along with these measures, install foolproof RK ecran Mosquito Screen doors and windows for your homes.
